NWS - Facilities Maintenance Technician - Electrical (Goose Bay, NL)

The North Warning System (NWS) is a joint United States and Canadian radar system that includes 47 radar sites spanning the Arctic from Labrador to the Alaska border. The NWS provides the capability to detect airborne threats across North America's polar region, providing a command and control capability to the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS) of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

Raytheon will provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the NWS system including full care, custody, and control of the entire NWS and its components. This includes 47 radar sites; five logistics support sites (LSSs), a monitoring and control center, and a radar depot. Key activities include radar, equipment and facilities maintenance/repair; logistics support; and remote monitoring and control.

Raytheon seeks a Facilities Maintenance Technician - Electrical to support the NWS system O&M Contract. The positions will be based in Goose Bay, Newfoundland Labrador, and is community based. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities:

• Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on various systems at an unattended site and will need to be flexible in traveling in and between different zones within the Canadian Arctic locations. This includes providing diagnostic, problem solving and repair capabilities.
• Ensuring that associated administrative requirements are completed according to standard operating procedures, including: documenting and maintaining facilities’ files as related to the work management system, operational field reports, data analysis, etc.
• Responding to site preservation emergencies and environmental emergencies,
• Responding to emergency situations (unexpected failures); provide assistance to other staff members and other trades as required.
• Provide assistance to apprentices and other trades as required, fuel dips and fuel transfers, other duties as assigned.
• Minor building repairs and general maintenance of the site.
• Documenting and maintaining facilities files as related to the work management system, work plans, field/incident reports, data analysis, etc.
• Secondary duties, as required, may include but not limited to: participating on the Fire Brigade; providing bear protection; assisting in the maintenance of the LSS library; conducting environmental, safety, security and quality checks and audits, general housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment and taking proactive and corrective measures in these areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5 years’ related experience (diagnostic and repairs), minimum, in a commercial or industrial setting; multidisciplinary.
• Licensed journeyman and post journeyman experience as an Industrial Electrician; Inter-provincial.
• Must be familiar with programmable logic controllers, diesel generators, switchgear and distribution systems, and safety regulations and practices
• Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams and specifications on a variety of electrical equipment, including manufacturer’s manuals and parts books.
• Must be familiar with safety regulations and practices, including working at heights.
• Must be Standard First Aid trained, including CPR Level A, and hold a valid certificate.
• Must hold, or obtain prior to scheduled start of work, a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).
• Must be comfortable working in and flying to remote Arctic locations via helicopter and/or smaller fixed wing aircraft.
• Effective written and verbal skills (English).
• Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Must possess serviceable safety boots that meet standards for workplace safety.
• Hold a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license, or provincial/territorial equivalent
• Security clearance to a secret level through the Canadian Government.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity and an understanding of work in the Canadian Arctic
