Responsibilities

The Technical Services Group (TSG) is a full-service technology provider for the Logistics Systems business unit within Raytheon Technical Services. The TSG is a small group of technologists that provide a wide array of analysis, engineering, and administrative services for network, system and database resources. The group is directly responsible for the management of high profile information system environments that support various Department of Defense contracts as well as other internal Raytheon businesses. The TSG is an end to end IT group involved in the design, deployment, and maintenance of complex information system configurations.

Job Description

Supports all activities of the Technical Services Group (TSG) in the design, configuration, and deployment of information system platforms / environments. Determines computer application system needs; advises application system designers on database characteristics that affect software performance such as storage capacity, process and information retrieval speed, and input/output requirements. Support the design, configuration and deployment of application system environments that include an optimal configuration several complex software components. Software system components may include, but not be limited to: operation systems (executive programs), database system software, application server software, client application components, utility programs, and specialty third-party components as dictated by the needs of the customer.
Provide support to customer systems as deployed in accordance with the needs of specific Dept. of Defense contracts awarded to Raytheon. Support will include on and on-shift work as needed and may involve a modest amount of travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
Within the TSG the Jr. System Administrator is responsible for:
  • Maintaining smooth operation of TSG managed systems both locally and at remote customer locations.
  • Monitoring and tuning physical and virtual servers for maximum security, availability, capacity and continuity.
  • Working with architects, analysts and developers to design and implement complex information systems.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed documentation on the configuration and management of managed systems.
  • Working under general direction and contributing to the completion of specific programs and projects
  • Interacting with technical personnel on specific projects and programs with external organizations.
  • Working with and learning from team members to maximize cross-functional knowledge within the team.

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of data networking concepts, technologies and security best practices.
  • Understanding of operating systems, their use, purpose, and function.
  • The ability to work reliably and confidently and acquire new information quickly.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply new knowledge effectively with a modest amount of direction.
  • Able to work collegially with personnel at multiple levels.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with the administration of Linux, Windows and/or VMware ESX based systems.
  • Ability to design, develop and maintain well designed UNIX and Windows scripts to support resilient system configurations.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal direction, yet function as part of the overall team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
  • Experience working with virtualization products and technologies from VMware.
  • Familiarity with iSCSI based storage area networks.
  • Experience managing Linux and Windows systems in a high security, high availability environment.

Required Education:

Bachelor of Engineering degree or related technical discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science). Obtained within the past 18 months. 132262
