Why did you choose Raytheon?

I chose Raytheon because I felt it would be a solid company I could build my strengths upon. I have family that has served the country well and I wanted to be a part of that great honor. Also, the company I worked for previously did not seem to possess the career growth opportunities, support and willingness to try new ventures.

How did YESNET help you integrate into Raytheon?

It did not seem as difficult for me to integrate mainly because of being outgoing. However, Raytheon is a large company and YESNET has definitely helped manage that. I have also gained more access to higher level employees than I would have been able to achieve on my own. This exposure has led me to be more comfortable in my everyday work and approach to my career growth.

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

I have a few, but there is one that stands out. There was an event called "YESNET Does Cooking" where a few dozen people took over a restaurant kitchen to learn how to cook some unique meals. The reason it stands out is because it showed that people had an interest in something out of the norm and would come out on a Saturday to do it. There were just as many non-Raytheon people in attendance as there were Raytheon employees. I believe this shows that YESNET not only reaches within the company for career, networking and other opportunities, but can also make a strong impact in the community.

Why did you choose Raytheon?

I chose Raytheon because I was looking for a challenging environment that offered opportunities for employees to grow. Unlike at some places where a job can seem to stagnate, since working at Raytheon I have always been actively encouraged to learn and grow within my job responsibility and even through new job roles.

How did YESNET help you integrate into Raytheon?

At a company as large as Raytheon, YESNET has been a great way for me to network with people outside of my immediate working area. Shortly after I arrived at Raytheon, a YESNET member was there to offer me help and advice and from then my network only grew. It is the networking aspect that I would say was key in establishing myself as a new employee in a new place with new people.

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

My favorite YESNET experience was the open roundtable of former YESNET members who are now in management. It was great to hear them speak about the benefits YESNET has provided to their time at Raytheon and their careers, all of whom had been members of YESNET only a few years earlier. The key takeaway I took from the roundtable was to keep challenging yourself and opportunities will present themselves.

How did YESNET help you integrate into Raytheon?

YESNET has provided me opportunities for career development. As a YESNET Invention Convention finalist, I have received IRAD funding to pursue a proposal for an organic analyte sensor and, in the process, I have developed important contacts providing opportunities to develop the proposal further and to learn more/participate in additional efforts which allow me to leverage my skills to direct my career and contribute to strengthening our Raytheon community and to enhancing our role/reputation in existing and developing technologies. Various YESNET events and activities have assisted me in learning more about our company and products, to socialize with my peers outside of work, and to learn more about the city to which I have relocated.

How has YESNET impacted your time at Raytheon?

YESNET has had a very positive impact on my time at Raytheon. I am especially impressed with the many activities sponsored to make us a Raytheon community and to participate positively in activities benefiting the local community. YESNET has been central to my career development and making me aware of opportunities at Raytheon to pursue technologies in which I have an interest and may be able to contribute my skills. The social events are a plus as they often involve learning about the city and activities in the community about which I might otherwise be unaware.

Why did you choose Raytheon?

I chose Raytheon because it offered both the comfort of working for a large organization in terms of the benefits offered, room for growth, etc., as well as the opportunities to work with cutting edge technologies.

How did YESNET help you integrate into Raytheon?

When I started, YESNET was a way to get to know people around the company who were in the same boat as me — newer employee with limited networking resources. After participating in a few of the events (both on site work-related meetings and off-site networking events) I began to gain a level of comfort and confidence with my coworkers to the point where I was able to have stronger technical interchanges with those individuals who I had met at the YESNET events.

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

A year or two after I was hired on, the local YESNET chapter organized a mentoring program that pulled in a large number of local senior leadership. A format similar to speed dating was used to introduce the mentors to the mentees -- each mentor was placed at a table around a big conference room and mentees went from table to table every 5 minutes chatting with them, finding out if there was a good match. At the end of the session the mentees were asked to prioritize who they would like to be matched with for mentoring and the YESNET leadership made every possible effort to match those folks up. It was a great way for the newer employees to get connected with a very senior set of employees early on in their career and I guarantee it helped grow me as an individual.

I chose Raytheon after my positive experiences as a College Intern. I really enjoy the culture here - when working on a team, it is obvious that everyone strives to work their hardest in order to put out the best product possible. YESNET has provided me with an opportunity to step and be a leader, even though I have not been with the company for very long. The things I learn from YESNET I hope to apply as I progress in my career with Raytheon.

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

My favorite YESNET experience was when as a group, the YESNET members and the Interns went duckpin bowling! It was a new experience for me - I had never even heard of duckpin bowling before. I was able to meet a whole bunch of new people, and we all hung out and went for pizza afterwards. It was a blast!

As both an intern and a new hire, YESNET has provided networking and career development events which allowed me to meet fellow employees and make connections that have been essential in my career. What is your favorite YESNET experience?

My favorite YESNET experience so far has been Speed Mentoring. This event was a fun and casual way for early-career employees to meet several leaders and engineering fellows in order to develop relationships and foster mentoring partnerships. I really enjoyed the opportunity to connect with leaders beyond my function and interface with people that I would not necessarily have interacted with in my daily tasks.

How did YESNET help you integrate into Raytheon?

I went on hike with YESNET three weeks after joining the company. Because of that I met friends that I am still close with today -- some of whom I play with in the Raytheon volleyball league! YESNET allowed me to quickly meet peers outside of my discipline, which, in addition to expanding my network, allowed me to become acclimated to a new city and a new work environment more quickly.

How has YESNET impacted your time at Raytheon?

For me, YESNET makes my time at work more well rounded. I am thrilled that every day I come into work and do exactly the type of engineering I set out to do academically. But in addition to that, YESNET is there to help me engage other employees, Raytheon Leadership, and the community. Over the years it has provided a great means for both personal and career development.

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

I think participating in the "YESNET Invention Convention" was very rewarding. YESNET members were invited to submit their own creative technical or non-technical ideas, and the finalists were invited to present in front of the Raytheon community and Senior Leadership. The top three winners were each well financed to pursue their concepts through internal research and development. Although, I must say, lip syncing to Susan Boyle during the "Raytheon's Got Talent" competition is pretty far up the favorites list too.

How did YESNET help you integrate into Raytheon?

YESNET gave me a community of peers to learn from. I had grown up in Massachusetts and didn't need help acclimating to the location. Instead, I, who had never worked in an Engineering Environment, needed assistance acclimating to the Defense Industry and Professional World. YESNET gave me peers to assist in that transition... YESNET gave me a community both professionally and personally to help me transition from college to the "real" world.

How has YESNET impacted your time at Raytheon?

YESNET has given me countless opportunities. Through lunch and learns, I have been given the opportunity to grow professionally, learning about everything from social media in the Defense Industry and growth in adjacent markets to 401K investments. YESNET has given me opportunities to engage Raytheon leadership in smaller, more personal networking and teambuilding sessions. It has given me the opportunity to volunteer in my community and create working relationships and friendships with my colleagues. It has given me the opportunity to continually develop myself, our community, and our company.

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

One of my favorite events was a community volunteer event at Boston's Museum of Science Day. Each employee was paired with a local high school student and we explored the museum. It was a ton of fun experiencing the museum from a younger person's perspective, bonding with the student, inspiring them, and building relationships with my colleagues. After the event, the employees went to a local restaurant and took the opportunity to discuss our backgrounds, work experiences, and what we did with our student that day. It was just a really great day - reminding YESNET members of how much fun science can be, helping us bring that positive attitude and the relationships we built back to the workplace

What is your favorite YESNET experience?

My Favorite YESNET experience was our trip to Anaheim to watch the San Jose Sharks take on the Anaheim Ducks! I love hockey and I love the sharks so getting to share that with my fellow employees was a lot of fun!
